Zijn opleiding kreeg hij aan de <em>Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology<\/em> in Ghana en in het Verenigd Koninkrijk.<\/p>\n<p>Kwami maakt werken waarin hij speelt met de vorm- en kleurimprovisaties die kenmerkend zijn voor de Ghanese architectuur en het Afrikaans strookgeweven textiel. Zijn objecten verkennen de dynamiek, de ritmische structuren en de improvisatiekracht van de Afrikaanse visuele praktijk, zoals hij die heeft ervaren.<\/p>\n<p>Atta Kwami is zich bewust van de veerkracht en persoonlijke strijd die nodig zijn voor een niveau van hoop en uitmuntendheid. Innovatie en traditie wisselen elkaar op een subtiele manier af. Schilderen is voor hem vergelijkbaar met koorddansen. Hij herhaalt vaak een enkel motief in een horizontaal of verticaal register.<\/p>\n<p>Dat was ook kenmerkend voor beide werken waarmee hij op ARTZUID stond;<a href=\"https:\/\/artzuid.nl\/en\/archive-artzuid\/artzuid-2011\/\"> in 2011<\/a> was <em>Amsterdam Archways<\/em> te zien. Een grote, kleurrijk compositie die als immense legostenen in de ruimte stonden opgestapeld. De volgende editie (<a href=\"https:\/\/artzuid.nl\/en\/archive-artzuid\/artzuid-2013\/\">2013<\/a>) werd <em>Reli\u00ebf Construction<\/em> ge\u00ebxposeerd, even groots en kleurrijk, dit keer ge\u00efnspireerd op uithangborden en etalages in zijn woonplaats Kumasi.<\/p>\n<p>Kleur heeft bij Kwami magie. Schilderijen worden bij hem objecten. Okergeel, indigo, zwart, geel en grijstinten brengen verschillende tinten licht en lijn over. Het werk lijkt groter dan de delen; is denkbeeldige raster vormt een structuur , een rookgordijn om iets nieuws te cre\u00ebren.<\/p>\n<p>Kwami ontving verschillende prijzen, reisbeurzen en stipendia. Zijn werken werden tentoongesteld in onder andere het <em>Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/em> (New York), de nationale musea van Ghana en Kenia, het <em>Victoria and Albert Museum<\/em> en het
