About Anna Mrzyglod
Anna Mrzyglod studied sculpture at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland, where she specialized in working with wood. Mrzyglod lives and works in Düsseldorf where, in addition to creating sculptures, she also focuses on illusionistic painting.
Her The Bear can be seen at ARTZUID 2023. This sculpture is intended as a memorial. The extra-large teddy bear looks and feels surreal, it is an ode for those who, for various reasons, missed warmth and closeness in their youth. The immense teddy bear is a monument which aims to offer comfort and promote human empathy. For Mrzyglod, her bear is the symbol of love and trust in the modern age of a lonely world. In addition, she represents a kind of eternal escape from adulthood, which has become an inherent part of the crazy times we live in.
According to Mrzyglod, the most diverse associations are evoked when meeting her oversized teddy bear. Proximity with it allows us to experience the object and space at the same time. For many, the teddy bear is an object we know from childhood, which evokes positive associations and a sense of well-being. However, the bear can also be reminiscent of suffering that struck too soon, when the first needs of children were not met. A disrupted inner connection and the inception of an endless state of repressed tension. This childhood stress can affect the rest of an adult life. Meeting the cute teddy bear leaves most of us with a smile on our face and a warm feeling inside.
