About the Stichting Art Zuid Foundation

Art Zuid Foundation is a cultural non-profit organisation founded in 2008 by Cintha van Heeswijck-Veeger (director). Our aim is to use art on the street to create new meeting places for all the city’s residents and thus make art accessible to everyone, especially children, by organising a world-class biennial sculpture exhibition in the monumental Plan-Zuid urban area of Amsterdam designed by architect H.P. Berlage, which can be attended free of charge for everyone. The foundation’s initial aim was to liven up the community by exhibiting modern and contemporary sculptures on Apollolaan, Minervalaan and the Zuidas business district, but in recent years it has grown to become the largest free art event in the Netherlands.

In 2013 ARTZUID was voted ‘best neighbourhood initiative’ by Amsterdam residents in the Oranje Fonds Kroonappels awards. In 2015 the exhibition was opened by HRH Princess Beatrix.

Over the past 10 years, 250 artists have been able to present a total of 350 artworks and 45,000 schoolchildren from Amsterdam and the surrounding area have taken part in the ARTZUID educational programme. During the four months, it is in place the sculpture route that attracts an average of 375,000 visitors! With international participants such as Tony Cragg, Eduardo Chillida, Mario Merz, Antony Gormley, Jaume Plensa, El Anatsui, KAWS and Atelier Van Lieshout the exhibition has become an important international sculpture podium. The artists for the previous editions were selected by leading curators such as Michiel Romeyn, Roberto Meyer, Jan Cremer, Henk van Os, Rudi Fuchs, Maarten Bertheux en Jhim Lamoree. The sculpture route for this edition will be composed by Cintha van Heeswijck-Veeger in collaboration with curators ……

Art Zuid Foundation strives to have ARTZUID’s exhibition, education programme and peripheral programme financed by 1/3 cultural funds, 1/3 companies & private individuals and 1/3 public income. In addition, the foundation relies greatly on the commitment and involvement of 100+ faithful community volunteers.
