About Wjm Kok

ARTZUID presents a new work by Wjm Kok that consists of just one drop of paint applied to a pavement. This work invites reflection on what is on the edge of the visible and is nevertheless an expression of a work in public space.

Just as an ocean can be reduced to just one drop, the execution of a conceptual work of art can sometimes be reduced to one action, one gesture. In another context, such as the performance of music, one can think of a percussionist who, with just one stroke on the triangle, manages to reduce a symphonic composition as a unity to a tone, the sound of which then slowly fades away.

What remains of the drop that has ‘fallen’? A point, a dot, a dot, a stain? Why do we speak of a dot of time, while a dot indicates a place much more readily? One Dot lets the work coincide with the place where it is found, and merges into its surroundings.
