About Stefan Rinck
Stefan Rinck is known for his unusual stone sculptures that form a colourful and comical community of animals and monsters. These figures often wear costumes and masks, are provided with specific symbols or bear the names of heroes from Greek mythology or legends. Rinck uses techniques such as sketching, modelling and sculpting to bring his creations to life. In an interview, Rinck described his relationship to current social trends as passive resistance. He sees his sculptures as spectators who stand on the bank and observe the currents. He describes his approach to aesthetics as brutalist, in which the physical properties of stone, such as monumentality, weight and strength, play a role. He emphasises the resistance of the material to emotional charge and sees beauty in the unbeautiful. For ARTZUID 2025 he made the new sculptures The Owl of Life and The Adventure of Freedom.
