About Lina Iris Viktor
The oeuvre of Liberian-British artist Lina Iris Victor is a visual symphony in which ancient and contemporary techniques merge into a mythology of its own. Her signature lies in the use of 24-carat gold leaf, an element that imbues her sculptures with an almost sacred energy. Victor questions the socio-political and historical narrative surrounding ‘blackness’, exposing universal implications and rewriting the notion of African aesthetics. Her practice revolves around revaluation and reinterpretation. Through symbolism, Viktor invites the viewer to look beyond the visual and discover deeper layers of meaning. Her art functions as a bridge between worlds, between tradition and progress, between material and immaterial. A recent work that continues this theme is Amma, which can be seen at ARTZUID 2025. It embodies Viktor’s ongoing search for the interplay between identity, history and spirituality.
