About Art van Triest
Art van Triest creates art that exposes the urge for control and order to curb chaos. ‘Central to my work is the human tendency to combat our fundamental fear and insecurity with order, a system. I see this as an attempt to get a grip on the world around us, arising from a deep need for control, or the illusion of it.’
Van Triest sees the grid as the ultimate symbol of this rational thinking. City plans, spreadsheets, agriculture, architecture – everywhere we look, the grid appears. It seems like a neutral system, but it dictates how we think, build and live according to the artist. His sculptures and installations function as a visual investigation into the boundaries of this structured way of thinking. What do we lose when we push the world into boxes?
