About Ricardo van Eyk

Ricardo van Eyk has been making spatial work more and more lately. This stems from his interest in the urban environment. Walking through the city, you experience the changes in the city over time. Van Eyk scans for materials and objects that are useful to him.

In the sculpture APEX that he made especially for ARTZUID, he uses aluminium dish-shaped elements that he mounts on a vertical pole. They are existing objects that he found at the scrap dealer. He makes a composition on paper, assembles them into a sculpture. Van Eyk processes the mirrored skin of the aluminium plates as if it refers to human use or wear and tear. The dish-shaped elements in combination with the vertical tube are reminiscent of a kind of ‘industrial’ bunch of flowers. But placed in an open space of a lawn or a square, the dishes also function as receivers of signals from far away.
