About Ronald Westerhuis

Ronald Westerhuis discovered his calling as a visual artist in stages. As a welder, he became fascinated by the material steel, after which he developed into a full-time artist. Due to his technical background, Westerhuis is able to create very large constructions in different types of steel with a team of employees, in which he always varies on his fixed visual motif: the sphere. A metaphor for the earth, but for him also for the new beginning, to which everyone who chooses to do so can devote themselves every day, is his motto. His position betrays his optimistic attitude to life and basic motivation to contribute to a better society with his art. At the Valley on the Zuidas, Westerhuis places the sculpture Water. That work consists of a series of high-gloss steel spheres, which move upwards like soap bubbles. Within the theme of ‘Enlightenment’ of ARTZUID 2025, the sculpture can speak the language of innovation that is so characteristic of Westerhuis.
