About Micky Hoogendijk

Two figures, closely intertwined. Or a group, merging into a larger whole. Micky Hoogendijk’s bronze sculptures touch on something essential: the invisible threads between people, the support we find in each other. The series she introduced in 2020 is called The Ones. ‘I called them The Ones, because they are human figures that are connected to each other and support each other to become stronger. We are all individuals, one, but we do not exist alone, so The Ones.’

ARTZUID shows The Ones XI from the series. The collaboration with bronze foundry Kemner in Cuijk helped her to convert the lines of her sketches into solid sculptures. Four meters high, cast in bronze using the sand casting method, it shows two figures that together form a dynamic unit. The tension between strength and vulnerability and between individual and duo is tangibly expressed here. The sculpture is a reminder that we only truly come into our power in relation to others.
